Description
This piece is written to depict the start of a new adventure. We start of with a slow segment with the Bass Line constantly playing the same rhythm, note and articulation. This gives this part the vibe of adventure/war preparation, with the Trumpet section first playing the melody in unison and split to create harmony when the upper woodwinds and the upper strings joins in. It is then followed up by a fast segment which starts off with the same melody as before and slowly evolved to other melodic segments.
The next segment goes back to a slower tempo and starts off with the flute playing a variation of the main melody as a solo which the oboe, violins and the remaining flute joins in to move into another variation where the whole orchestra plays at the same time which slowly flows and introduce many other melodic lines, including the second main melody. Finally, it goes to a tempo which is even faster than before which starts off with the lower woodwinds, lower brass and lower strings which slowly increases intensity by slowly adding in the 2nd Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Double Basses and snare drum. Which is followed by the horns and violas with a heroic entrance which is soon join in by the 2nd violins. Then the flutes, oboes and clarinet continue with another smooth melodic passage which is later joined by the strings. After which is then followed by the second main melody which reappears here in a different key.
The Great New Adventure is considered by biggest composition as I have written two versions, one for full wind band and the other for full orchestra.
